Retro Re-do

After my recent post, I believe that you should now know that I paint everything!! I think painting furniture and any other item that needs a little TLC can benefit from it.

This past weekend I went to a yard sale and picked up this 50-60's style piece of furniture.

A few nicks and dings on the sides....a minor (easily fixed) wobbly leg..
Hardware is in good shape..might keep them as original.

I know, I know..your thinking...why is she painting this piece? it looks like its in near perfect condition.
Well yes, it is in very good condition, and yes, it is technically an antique....but it will look so gooood painted and give it a more up-do-date look, and it will go with my decor more so than the current way it is finished now.

I plan to give it a popular color that comes from that era...can you think of what color that might be?

I ALREADY knew what color I was going to paint it when I first saw it..but then I found this (1960's) color scheme chart that CONFIRMED my decision. I use an enamel based paint (very secretive ;) but I will give the secret to those who are interested! It dries to a very hard coating, and is almost like car paint or an enamel finish. It isn't for the light hearted, or the timid when painting furniture, because if you mess up-you mess up! ;) So proceed with caution.

Below are the color charts I mentioned above.

I'll post the before and after here soon!!

Fresh and New Bamboo!

For most of you, you know that I have had a big change happen in my life over the past few weeks. I don't want to go into detail about it, but I do want to thank everyone for all the prayers and thoughts regarding this matter. Please email me if you are not aware, but please no postings to the blog.
To get my mind off of some things, I am getting more excited as I start to feel the warmth of the summer sun approaching!! and it makes me itch for YARD SALES and the THRIFT STORES and AUCTIONS!!(actually, Ive never attended an auction, but would love to! ha!)

Recently while taking a trip to a local vintage store with my sis-in-law, I came across these beauties(or at least I thought they had lots of potential)!! They were a set and a great make-over project indeed.

Sorry the pictures are a bit fuzzy, it was late at night when I took them in my garage.

Everywhere you look these days you see hints of bamboo in everything from dishes to light fixtures!
(I am on the look out for a light fixture as well!)

Original hardware, didn't make the final cut because it was broken on one, and missing on the other. I found cute replacements though =)
Here is the after................I absolutely love the way they turned out!

A girly makeover...

I have a client that has a young "tween" daughter and they are currently re-decorating her room.
They chose the bedding, then chose the paint colors for the room based off of those items.
The daughters' room currently has a standard height chair rail mould going around the perimeter of the room, and below this moulding they decided to mimic the euro shams and do a green and pink stripe.
I am not sure what the walls are painted as of yet, but I do know that the ceiling got a green trey effect added to it.

This is going to be a very vibrant bedroom, and very girly, and need I say more because...it's themed around SHOES!!

The bedding and the accent pillows and etc. are shown below.

To start out with any client that wants a wall mural, graphic and or other, I normally do a few sketches in black and white to give them a general idea.
For this project I HAD to add the color to them to make sure everything would work on the wall, for my own piece of mind.

I still have to measure to get accurate dimensions on the wall, but that will be later this week, and hopefully I can get this on my calendar to complete for her before the middle of June(that's my plan at least =)) And then I will have the after photos!

Below are the sketches that I  have done for my client, and I look forward to showing her my ideas!

Where you see the green rectangle, her initial would go here.

This design would draw 2d frames around each.

This design mimics one of her accent pillows.
Which design is your favorite? I know which one is mine!=)
